About
Donna Sunario BScAuthor, Behaviour Strategist and Educator
Observer of human behaviour under pressure.
Donna Sunario BSc writes at the intersection of behavioural psychology, practical philosophy and Human Systems Design.

The premise
People are not broken.
They are frequently operating inside systems that no longer serve them.
For more than twenty five years, Donna worked inside some of the most demanding corporate environments in the world, including Goldman Sachs, BP and Accenture. From that vantage point she observed how pressure, responsibility, ambition, uncertainty and expectation shape human behaviour. She witnessed talented people thrive, struggle, burn out, reinvent themselves and search for meaning while appearing successful from the outside.
Those observations became the foundation of her work.
The questions
Why do capable people struggle to relax?
Alongside her corporate career, Donna studied psychology, counselling, mental health, hypnotherapy, behavioural change and human development. Rather than viewing these disciplines as separate fields, she became interested in the patterns connecting them.
- Why do capable people struggle to relax?
- Why do successful people feel empty?
- Why do intelligent people remain trapped in unhealthy relationships?
- Why do high performers carry responsibility that was never theirs to hold?
- Why do so many people continue solving symptoms while missing the systems creating them?
These questions sit at the heart of her writing.
The philosophy
Human Systems Design for the Inner Life.
Donna's work is built around Human Systems Design for the Inner Life, an approach that examines the hidden systems shaping how people work, cope, relate, recover and live. Rather than focusing on motivation or willpower, she explores the structures beneath behaviour, including identity, safety, self worth, responsibility, belonging, environment, attention and meaning.
Her books form part of a larger body of work known as The Human Systems Design Library.
Together, these books map different dimensions of the human experience.
The Human Systems Design Library
The books.

The Nervous System Tax
explores the hidden biological costs of modern performance.

Why Can't I Relax?
examines the psychology of chronic vigilance and the search for safety.

The Self Reliance Trap
investigates why asking for help feels so difficult.

The Human Habitat

White Collar Jobs

Full Life, Empty Inside
explores emotional numbness in high functioning individuals.

Red Flag Ready
focuses on manipulation, coercive control and psychological self protection.
At the centre of all her work is a belief that meaningful change rarely begins with trying harder. It begins with understanding the system.
Corporate experience and training
Twenty five years studying human behaviour under pressure.
Before becoming an author, Donna spent more than twenty five years working inside demanding corporate environments, close to senior leaders, complex organisations and the realities of performance under pressure. She observed how ambition, responsibility, uncertainty, politics, change and expectation shape behaviour, relationships and decision making.
Alongside that corporate career, she studied psychology, psychotherapy, counselling, neuro linguistic programming, clinical hypnotherapy, executive coaching, behavioural change and Mental Health First Aid. It is the combination of these disciplines, alongside her time inside organisations, that allows her work to move fluently between the inner life of the individual and the outer architecture of the systems they live and work inside.

A cross cultural perspective.
Donna Sunario BSc is of London based Irish Indonesian heritage and brings a cross cultural perspective shaped by living and working across multiple countries and industries.
Today, she writes books, articles and frameworks that help readers understand themselves with greater clarity and redesign the systems that influence their lives.
The ambition
Not simply to write books.
Her ambition is not simply to write books. It is to create a practical body of work that helps people understand the hidden forces shaping human experience and to establish Human Systems Design as a new way of thinking about how people work, cope, relate, recover and live.
